The way of treating your bridal jewellery post wedding is a major concern for a new bride- how to protect it from tarnishing, the proper way of taking care of them, etc. Every woman loves to take proper care of her jewellery. But bridal jewellery is way more different from other jewellery products in many aspects such as its importance, its emotion, and of course its value. Hence, we’re going to share with you what to do and what not to do with your bridal jewellery post wedding.
Bridal Jewellery Post Wedding – How to Take Care of It Properly
Every bride must have her own emotional attachment to her bridal jewellery. So, proper take care is always needed regardless of its type, i.e. diamond jewellery, gold jewellery, or polki/kundan jewellery. There are some steps that are pretty common for all types in order to protect them. But, later we’ll discuss something more important for the specific kinds of jewellery.
1. Don’t Expose it to Air Moisture
Any kind of jewellery is extremely sensitive to the moisture present in the air around us. Hence, it should not be kept openly in some kind of jewellery box or safe. There are numerous types of pouches available in the market with zip locks. Before putting it inside any box, or locker, keep it inside the zipper pouch, pull out the air inside, and lock it.
2. Be Gentle, Be Cautious while Washing it at Home
It may be a bit tricky, whether you should wash your bridal jewellery post wedding at home or take it to the jeweller. The answer is yes, you can do it easily at your home, but you’ve to be more than just careful. Yet this process is only applicable to gold and diamond jewellery, as you can’t expose your ethereal polki bridal jewellery to water. The procedure is very simple- take a bowl of warm water, mix 1-2 drops of dishwashing liquid into it, and rub your jewellery with a soft toothbrush dipped into the solution. After all, rinse your gold and diamond jewellery thoroughly with regular water, and let it dry properly.
3. A Touch of Chemical Can be Harmful
If you think that your used jewellery will be clean and look like a new one after dipping into some harsh chemical, then you’re absolutely wrong and that can lead to some permanent damages to your jewellery. Chemicals are too reactive to metals and they can affect the luster and shine of the jewellery by tarnishing the colour. Several beauty products, perfumes, and hair sprays contain harmful chemicals, so be aware of when you’ve to wear your bridal jewellery. Do it after and only after you’ve finished everything of your makeup.
4. Proper Storage is Very Important
Keeping your jewellery inside a zipper pouch can definitely protect it from moisture but not from external shocks. Hence, storing it inside a hard case is also important. You can use any tough box to keep it protected, but the box provided by the jeweller at the time of shopping is the best option to store it, as that box is extra-toughened and made for that specific purpose only. Otherwise, you can also buy another box as per your preference from your nearby jewellery box dealer.
5. Be Careful of Flexible Jewellery
For any sort or any piece of jewellery, remember not to fold them while packing. In easy words, put your jewellery flattened or in its exact spread form inside the box or pouch. The wires used to make the joints remain very thin and can break into pieces if a little extra pressure is exerted. Also, put every single piece of earrings, rings, bangles, etc. in different packaging. If two jewellery pieces keep rubbing with each other, both pieces will be affected and will end up in the loss of their shiny finish.
6. Do Regular Checks of Your Precious Bridal Jewellery Post Wedding
You shouldn’t treat your bridal jewellery in such a way that you keep your jewellery protected in your home locker or bank safely and just forget it. Regular check is fairly important for your precious bridal jewellery post your grand day celebration. If kept untouched, rechecking once every six months is perfectly fine.
Taking Care of Bridal Jewellery Post Wedding – Jewellery Specific Guidelines
There are 3 main types of bridal jewellery- Polki/Kundan Jewellery, Gold Jewellery, and Diamond Jewellery. Apart from the 6 aforementioned points, there is much more to know if we concentrate on these 3 upcoming points.
For Polki/Kundan Jewellery:
Firstly, no matter what happens, never let your Polki/Kundan bridal jewellery get in touch with any chemical or even water.
Second, the process of getting it cleaned is quite different from others. Instead of liquids, take a new eraser, and simply start rubbing the complete jewellery softly, except the Polki diamonds studded in it.
For Gold Jewellery:
Firstly, don’t let two of your gold jewellery pieces in a single packet. Rubbing with each other will lead to scratching of your gold bridal jewellery, diminishing the polish.
Second, removing each of your gold jewellery items during your bathing session is the safest option.
For Diamond Jewellery:
Firstly, use butter paper or tissue paper to wrap it while packaging it in order to protect it from atmospheric moisture.
Secondly, avoid wearing your favourite as well as precious diamond bridal jewellery while doing exercises, or workouts, as excessive sweating may lead to tarnishing or loss of colour of your jewellery.
